Ali's blog post about binary models asks a lot of good questions some of which I don't understand myself. I agree with her view on "why are horizontal monopolies illegal?" She also makes the really good point that we believe everyone does whatever they can to fit in when in reality there are people who are independent thinkers.
Overall her article brings up a lot of good points and is a well written response.

Responding to ModeratleyMaggie's view on Conglomeration.
I strongly agree with Maggie Mitchell's view on conglomeration. One point that she makes is one that we didn't go over in class saying it creates less advertising jobs. I find this to be a really good realization. Most people would not think of something like this so props to Mags. Among that she makes several other good points including how the difference parts have limited freedom due to the parent company's morals.
Overall I think Maggie did a really good job with stating her thoughts on conglomeration. .

Critiquing the Media.
The very first yardstick is making sure something is newsworthy. They must be things that will affect a lot of people of all kind and things that will affect these said people for a long time. This topic is very sad and this incident should not have happened but it has not met the standards of newsworthiness. The man talked about is fine and they said it is not believed to be connected to other shooting on interstate 10 so it is not that relevant to people who don't know this cop. Also this happened in Pheonix so it would only be semi-relevant to people in Pheonix. If it was connected to the other shootings then it would be more relevant but still not that newsworthy. The shooting are still only relevant to people who live over in the area.

Talking about Media Critiques.
Media critiques are an essential part of the news world. They do the very important job of making sure reporters or news organizations do the right thing. It is really important to make sure everyone is following the elements and yardsticks. It is also good to tell the audience who is doing a good job at following the rules and who isn't so that they know who they should should trust and follow over others who aren't doing as good a job as others.

Newspapers and why they are important.
Newspapers are the basis of basically all reporting. They are an important but dying part of society. They are one of the main things that started mass communication. There is a reason they have lasted 2074 years if counting The Daily Acts in 59 BC. They are a great sharable resource. Many people have a connection with them because they have seen their parents and grandparents reading them so it has become tradition. I think that's pretty cool. Overall I believe newspapers are a really cool concept and it makes me kind of sad that they are dying out. b
Thoughts on Demassification.
I like to think of demassification as a good thing. Instead of paying a magazine with something for everyone or watching a certain tv station waiting for the show you like to come on, you can now pay that same price for something that is just full of stuff you like and not just a few things. You can watch a station and like pretty much everything on it. Although it's pretty great in my opinion, it has its downsides. You won't be exposed to all these different interests so you may not branch out as much as you could if you were seeing them everywhere.
Conglomeration.
Conglomeration has it's goods and bads. It is a very good thing for the businesses because they have a lot of assets and things to fall back on. If one fails, they can drop it and move on without a care. They can see something working and run with it under many different outlets which is pretty cool because they can produce a wide range of products for a specific idea. This in turn can be bad for us consumers though. We get less diverse content. If everything is run by the same few companies then we will just keep getting the same things over and over. This is a good thing for some people if they like the things that are being duplicated but for others who don't it is a nightmare.
I personally like the things that people are creating. I love pretty much everything Disney, owner of ABC, Marvel, and A&E, creates.
